I went downtown today to do two things:
1. Get library card
2. Renew gym membership
...and somehow I ended up shopping on King Street.
When I saw a 50% off sign at Gap, I just couldn't resist. I love Gap for my basics (white and black cotton Ts, jean jackets, leggings, etc.)
Then I feasted my eyes upon this little number:
Sequins. 50% off. Sold.
I also walked into Victoria's Secret and loaded up on some semi-annual sale goodness.
After shopping and renewing my gym membership (my gym is conveniently a half block away from all the stores), I decided to do something I have never done before.
I got my first library card.
Ok, I'm assuming I had one when I was a little girl, because Mom would take me to the library pretty often to check out books (the ones with the most pictures, of course). I also went to Harry Potter camp at the library once, but ya know, that's a different story. I'm proud of my library card. Let me tell you why.
Confession #32: I'm not the biggest reader.
That's something I hate to admit because I feel that everyone should find time to keep the mind busy by escaping in a good book. Truly, I do enjoy reading when I can find a book that I enjoy enough. I just lack the motivation to find good books. I can't tell you the last book that I read for my own pleasure. Oops, actually I can. I read, "The Carrie Diaries," this summer and blogged about it on here. Before that, though, I can't tell you the last book I read. I justify this by the fact that I'm still a student and am constantly consumed by my textbooks. When I have free time, I want as far away from a book as I can possibly get. Bring me my laptop, a TV, or a magazine with lots of pictures -anything but something with small print and lot of pages.
So I've made it one of my new year's resolutions to start reading for pleasure. Thus, the reason I got my library card today.
I felt like Matilda. Do y'all remember that movie? (Actually, I think it was a book first.) Matilda goes to the library every day and reads books for hours while sitting in the same spot. The librarian tells her that she can get her very own library card and take home as many books as she'd like. Oh, and it doesn't cost any money!
I had no idea how many books I could check out, if there was a charge to get a library card, or how long I was allowed to keep them. The librarian was laughing at me. It only took me about 10 minutes to pick out my books because they are all books I've been wanting to read ...eh, eventually.
Please give me suggestions of good books to check out on my next visit to the library!
Before I go, here's a mini recap of last night. Brandon and I went to Mellow Mushroom to grab a pizza for dinner. Man, I love that place. We got a Caesar Caesar pizza and spinach dip.
I hate to give you guys these soggy leftovers as a visual, but here you go:
Later, we met up with good friends for a cocktail at Social Wine Bar.
OOTN:
Top: Tinley Road, Skirt: Banana Republic, Shoes: Tory Burch Sally Wedges |
I also wore a special necklace and ring. I blogged about both but never showed pictures. The stones in both were picked out by Brandon's parents in Germany. His Dad is a jeweler and had the opportunity to cut the amethyst for me. He made it into a necklace and (Brandon's parents) gave it to me for Christmas. He put the citrine stone into a ring and had it for sale in his store. Brandon knew I'd love it and bought it for me for Christmas.
Love,
Meg
