I'm going to share with you the tricks that I do at night. I have used all of these tricks for a long time, so they are definitely keepers!
A lot of you asked me what kind of self tanner I use.
Well, I use a stinky one.. but it works.
I mix L'Oreal Sublime Bronze Gradual Self-Tanning Lotion with my regular body lotion and apply it a few nights a week about an hour before bed.
Do NOT apply this in the morning. There is no point because the color takes 5 to 10 hours to show up, plus, you'll stink all day. Applying it at night is perfect because you wake up tanner, then can wash off the stinky residue in the shower the next morning. I will even mix a little of this with my face lotion and haven't had any problems at all with clogged pores, etc.
By the way, I use the Medium-Tan color. (Mixing it with my regular lotion tones down the color pay-off to the Light-Medium color. Doing it this way, as opposed to purchasing the Light-Medium color, gives me more bang for my buck!)
Now... for super soft, shiny hair.
I have a love/hate relationship with conditioner. I love the way it makes my feel when I'm in the shower and for the following four hours after my hair is dry. Around 2pm, after a morning of conditioning, I hate my hair. I have fine strands that get oily very, very easily. Conditioner only speeds up that process.
So many days, I will only condition the ends of my hair. Still, I need to condition all over at times to keep my locks shiny and manageable.
Enter this lovely product:
I wash my hair every other morning.
On the night of my "Second Day Hair," I will wet my hair all over with warm water. Then, use paper towels (much easier on the hair than a regular towel & much more absorbent ) to soak up almost all of the wetness. Then, I'll apply this Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque all over my hair, from roots to tips, and comb through with an extra-wide toothed comb. Later on, I'll braid my hair and go to sleep! (this makes your pillow smell amazing, by the way)
Wake up. Wash hair. Condition as normal (for me, only on the ends).
I do this once a week to keep my strands super soft.
I apply Ultrabalm by Lush on my lips every night before bed. It's amaze. I also apply it to my cuticles almost every night. (This product is multi-purpose. It's made for any part of your body that gets dry.)
On nights when I'm not doing my deep repair masque, I use this:
As I'm getting ready for bed at night, I put the L'Oreal Everstrong Overnight Repair Treatment in my hair from mid-shaft to the tips. I apply this on dry hair. It's super light weight, but makes your hair feel amazing. Sometimes, I'll even apply it on the mornings of my "Second Day Hair" since it dries almost instantly. It tames down fly-aways, puts moisture back in my hair, and makes your hair smell like it has just been washed! LOVE.
and perhaps, my most favorite trick of all...
I don't know what I would do without baby powder. Oh yes I do, I would wash my hair every day, strip the moisture and color out of it, have split ends and frizz.
See why this is a must have?
I have used this for years in the roots of my hair to absorb oil, which allows myself to go two days without washing my hair. I could probably go longer, but I love the way just-washed hair feels too much to do that.
But here's my trick...
Baby powder smells like, well, babies. That may just be my favorite smell of all time (other than Chanel Mademoiselle, of course), but that doesn't mean that I want my hair to smell like babies.
Insert the trick:
Before bed, the night before your "second day hair," apply baby powder to the roots.
Don't do it in the mornings! This will make your hair white & smell like babies.
If you apply the baby powder at night, your hair will spend the whole night absorbing all the white powder and all of the fragrance. Then, you can wake up in the morning with normal-colored and normal-smelling hair. Then, I touch up with a few sprays of dry shampoo. (For me, dry shampoo is too expensive to use all over the hair, three to four mornings a week.. Especially when I can produce the same results with applying baby powder at night. This makes that tiny, $10-$30 bottle of dry shampoo bottle last a LOT longer.)
So, there you have it.
Xo.
