...that's what Brandon and I have been doing all weekend.
Well, kind of. We mostly watched, but braved a few dances.

Sorry I'm late!
The Shag is South Carolina's state dance.
...and the home of the shag is Ocean Drive in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina!
Both of my parents spent their adolescence to adulthood in North Myrtle Beach. They hung out at various dance clubs on Ocean Drive, such as The Spanish Galleon and the OD Pavillion. These clubs are still very much alive and attract crowds of shaggers, who dance to their favorite beach music songs, of course.
Brandon's parents are part of SOS (Society of Stranders), which holds various 10 day-long shagging events throughout the year.
This past weekend was the "Spring Safari," so Brandon and I joined his parents in North Myrtle to partake in the fun!
To all of you that aren't familiar with the shag: Sorry if this description isn't very good! Here's a video of the dance that will explain for itself.
These are excellent dancers and no, not everyone dances to this degree of skill!
Brandon's parents are awesome shaggers, so Brandon and I watched them a good bit to pick up on some moves!

All of my family is from South Carolina & I will never forget being 10, sitting on my Great Uncle Bill's in-closed porch & him coming in from the farm begging me to shag with him (he & my great-aunt were amazing!).
I wouldn't do it because I didn't know how & I was too embarrassed.
He passed away that summer & I never saw him after that trip. Oh how I wish I could go back in time & just dance that one shag with him!
I can't believe you didn't post about the mOVIE shag!!!!!!! I grew up watching that over and over in HS!!! Phoebe Cates was in her Prime in that movie!!! :)
