Thanks, Dr. Oz

I was wanting to go to the gym yesterday at 5pm.
When I was about to turn the TV off and walk out the door, I hear,

"Next, on Dr. Oz! ...The best time to lose weight! Diet and exercise secrets revealed! Learn the best way to burn fat!"

So here I am, wanting to go to the gym to burn fat, but also wanting to learn how Dr. Oz wants me to burn fat.
So do I go the gym or sit on the sofa and watch?

Little situations like this define my life.

Well, I ended up going to the gym because I know myself too well.  Had I laid down for the hour-long Dr. Oz show, I would NOT have gotten up to go to the gym later on.

Lucky for me, the Dr. Oz crew posted little bits of the show via online videos!

Here are some tips that I appreciate, and think you all will too...

1. Start every day with a healthy breakfast.

Find some great healthy breakfast ideas here.

2.  The best time to eat breakfast (for your metabolism) is exactly one hour after you wake up. For the average American, this is at 7:30am.

3.  Given that you eat breakfast at 7:30am, you should eat lunch at noon and dinner at 6:30pm.

4..  The best time to work out is five minutes after you wake up, before you've eaten anything.
This way, your body will burn stored fat.  If you've eaten something, your body will have to burn through that new food before it can burn fat stores.

More psychological benefits of morning exercise here.

5.  Drink a large glass of ice cold water around 8am.  This will boost your metabolism and wake you up! It will also keep your belly full longer between breakfast and lunch.

6.  Take 10,000 steps a day.  That's equivalent to 5 miles per day.

7.  The best, most true time to weigh yourself is the exact time you wake up.

8.  The best time to take a fiber supplement is at 6:15pm, or 15 minutes before you eat dinner.  The fiber will expand in your stomach, make you feel more full, and likewise, eat less at dinner!

9.  You CAN become addicted to fats and sugar.  Your body increasingly craves them as you consume them more and more.  They affect your brain chemicals the same way cocaine does, according to Dr. Oz.

Eating too much sugar or fat blocks the fullness hormone, Leptin, in your brain.  This means that no matter how much you eat, your brain thinks you aren't full, so you have no indicator to stop eating.

Fats and sugars are fine to consume, but in moderation!

10.  The best way to break your addiction to fat and sugar is with a sugar detox.  Dr. Oz recommends a natural, easy cleanse that can be found here!

  8. That breakfast one hour after you wake up is good for me - I always eat breakfast at work. I'm terrible with waking up early to make food!

  11. Thank you so much for this post. (I always feel like I learn so much from you!) but I have been in a dilemma on what is the best time to work out... it's usually around 4 because of convenience and because I can't seem to get my rear out of bed in the mornings! But I will definitely be working out bright & early tomorrow AM!
