I've been out of town for a week! To get the whole story, we're going to have to back track to Mother's Day weekend. Let's start with Friday.
Brandon and I went to an event benefitting the Children's Hospital (where I work) called Art for Charity. The event was held at the beautiful Michael Mitchell Gallery on King Street. There was wine + hors d'oeuvres from O-Ku + live music... plus, a portion of the art proceeds came back to the hospital. It was a great event! No pics... sorry Charlie.
Later, we had dinner at Basil, a thai restaurant on King. We sat outside and admired the city dwellers that were about town in pretty outfits & smiling faces. That's seriously one of my favorite things about Charleston... the amazing people watching. It's not the kind of watching where you laugh at the awkward people (although, let's be real - that's fun, too). Instead, watching all of the locals and tourists enjoying Charleston makes me truly appreciate this city. This time of year, there are so many events going on that it's hard to keep track of them all. I just love the busy sidewalks!
Oh, here's a picture of us at Basil. I had to be corny and ask our server to snap the pic.
My mom came to stay with me on Saturday. We had the best time being girls & not having a single place to go or time to be there. She and I shopped around, ate some yummy local food, went to my friend, Ashton's, law graduation party, and then saw The Five Year Engagement.
On Sunday, we went to church at St. Mary's, where Brandon and I will be married next April. Later, we joined Brandon and his parents, who were also visiting, at Fleet Landing for Mother's Day Lunch. Sadly, my dad couldn't come to Charleston due to a prior obligation (but we definitely enjoyed the girl time!).
I ended up taking all of last week off from work. So on Sunday, I just rode the hour and a half with my mom back to my parent's home. On Monday and Tuesday, I slept in and caught up on a lot of tedious little tasks that have been on my to-do list for ages. Staying in comfy clothes all day is pretty glorious when you're not used to it.
The weather was yucky
(hail)
but it was so nice to be home. Ridgeland is so different than Charleston. Check out the bunny that lives in my parents' yard. He came out after the rainstorm.
On Wednesday, my dad took me to Beaufort (I was chauffeured around all week, which was pretty amazing!), where I met up with Brandon's family to go to Fripp Island for the Beaufort Charities Invitational, a golf tournament they've been involved in for years. We LOVE Fripp. It's 30 minutes away from Brandon's home in Beaufort, but it feels like worlds away. It's a little slip of lowcountry paradise.
We stayed in a GORGEOUS home Wednesday through Sunday.
We had ONE pretty day, but it was fine by me because it forced me to sleep in and relax!
I did enjoy my one day in the sun, though :)
...and here's Friday.
A rainy golf tournament -hiding in the golf cart under some trees with Brandon and his best bud, Jon!
Here are some other random iPhone pics from my week off...
fresh fruit galore
appropriately packed pool bag.
got to wear my new kicks for a run on the beach!
putting contest after the golf tournament day one - the winner won a golf cart!
We had some dinner parties in the evenings, then had all sorts of entertainment afterwards - much like this:
So THAT's where I've been!
I'm back in Charleston now ...back to the daily grind.
Regular posts will start again. Promise!

ReplyDeleteMy Grandma had a place on St. Helena's Island in Beaufort on Land's End Rd. from the time I was 6 to 17. Love Beaufort and love going back. I can't believe how much downtown has changed over the years! I'd love to have a house on Fripp, wouldn't you? :)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh I have such a random question for you!!! Why is the ceiling of the porch blue, I read about it but they all say different things, I am dying to know!
